About

Albums of Hope, a 501 (c)(3) charity organization, donates pocket-sized photo albums filled with uplifting quotes and photos to local hospitals, cancer treatment centers, support groups, and to individuals. Our mission is to the lift the spirits of others during difficult times.

Albums of Hope began as a project in 2010 when founder Laura Townsend's husband was fighting colorectal cancer. It began as a mission to feel helpful during a time when we often feel helpless. After Brad lost his battle, Albums of Hope incorporated in 2011 to continue to lift the spirits of those battling cancer. To date, Albums of Hope has donated over 4000 albums to local cancer patients and their families.

Our dedicated group of volunteers continues to assemble albums for donation. Our volunteers are fueled by the knowledge that these little albums make a big and immediate difference in the lives of those fighting the tough fight against cancer.

To hear the story of Albums of Hope from Laura Townsend, Founder and President, please view the video below. Laura spoke at Good Shepherd Hospital’s National Cancer Survivor Day in 2013. She shared her experience as a caregiver for her husband and how that led to the creation of Albums of Hope.

St. Baldrick's Event

St. Baldrick's Event
Albums of Hope joined McHenry West High School and the McHenry community for the St. Baldrick's Shave event. Those at the event had the opportunity to make an Album of Hope for someone they know fighting cancer or for our local treatment centers. Over 65 albums were made, and Hope got to visit with those that came by the table, too. The community had 517 heads shaved and raised over $125,000 for pediatric cancer research!

Hear from Heroes

Hear from Heroes
President Laura Townsend and pet therapy dog Hope attended the Hear from Heroes speaker series at McHenry West High School. Townsend spoke about Albums of Hope and pet therapy to an auditorium full of high school students interested in hearing more about volunteer opportunities. 70 high school volunteers then created albums for local children who are in hospice care.
